Technology

  • Temporins are natural antimicrobial peptides identified in amphibians with a broad spectrum of activity against many pathogens.
  • The present innovation relates to a range of antimicrobial peptides derived from temporin Shf (isolated from Pelophylax saharica frog skin) and exhibiting enhanced antibacterial activity.
  • In particular two petides (8aa) have shown a strong activity against both Gram – and Gram + bacteria (CMI<10µM). Furthermore, they present a natural resistance to biodegradation due to their specific structure.

Market

  • The emerging problem of antibiotic resistance is a serious threat to global health. The situation is exacerbated by the decline in the R&D of antibacterial agents.
  • Hence, very few new antibacterial classes are developed when older classes lose their efficacy.
  • Antimicrobial peptides appear as a promising solution for this shortfall; yet, they still meet serious issues impairing their development, such as production costs and poor pharmacokinetics.

Development

  • The activity of temporin SHf analogs has been tested over many known strains (P. aeruginosa, K. pneumoniae, E. faecelis, S. aureus, C. albicans…) and cytotoxicity was evaluated in vitro.
  • SATT Lutech is funding a program to develop a biocide formulation and get a proof of concept of the use of the peptides as antimicrobial agents.

IP

  • Patent application filed in Juin 11, 2021, published under N° WO2022/259007. The application has entered the national phases in EU, CA, US and JP.
